Questions, answered

Do I need my own AI key?

No. Manuscript Studio runs the AI for you on managed models — usage is metered in simple monthly credits, with no API keys or setup. You can pick the model for every outline and enhancement.

What kinds of book can I make?

Eight. Novels and non-fiction use the chapter editor; coloring books, children’s picture books, planners and journals, recipe books, photo books, word search puzzle books and sudoku puzzle books use a page designer instead — because for those the page is the unit of work, not the chapter, and the page count is exact rather than estimated. Each kind starts with the trim, paper, ink and bleed it actually prints on.

Can I make a coloring book or other low-content book?

Yes. Describe what each page should show and the AI draws the line art, page by page, on your chosen trim. Line art is flattened to pure black and white so it prints properly — antialiased grey falls below the minimum ink coverage Amazon KDP will print, which is what makes lines come out broken. You can also add frames, captions and page numbers as a template that stamps across every page, and Manuscript Studio flags the low-content setting where the platform treats those titles differently.

Can I make a children’s picture book?

Yes, and it opens on the spread view — composing a picture book one page at a time is what produces artwork that misses the fold. Illustrations are full colour, the story text sits in a real text box positioned in the band the illustrator was told to leave quiet, and there is a running word count against the reading age.

Will it write my Amazon listing and keywords?

The Promotion Studio writes your blurb, tagline, keywords, categories, author bio and social posts from your actual premise, story codex and opening pages, then checks each field against that store’s real limit — counting the way that store counts, including Amazon’s HTML tags. It deliberately has nowhere to put a comparison title, a review quote or an award, because inventing those is false advertising.

Is the PDF really print-ready for Amazon KDP and other printers?

Yes. Pick your print platform — Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble Press, or Lulu — and every plan exports a clean interior PDF at that platform’s standard trim sizes, with its gutter margins, embedded fonts, an automatic table of contents, and page numbers — rendered by the same engine as the on-screen preview, so what you see is exactly what prints.

Can I export an eBook and a Word manuscript too?

Yes. Alongside the print PDF, Manuscript Studio exports EPUB 3 (KDP’s recommended Kindle format, with a real navigation TOC) and an editable DOCX for editors and beta readers.

Does Manuscript Studio make audiobooks?

The Creator plan and above generate a complete AI-narrated audiobook, mastered to the ACX technical spec with room tone, credits and a retail sample. It is cut into passages rather than whole chapters, so correcting one sentence re-narrates that sentence and nothing else — you are not charged again for audio you already have. Distribute via Google Play Books, Spotify, Kobo and Findaway; Audible’s ACX prohibits AI narration, and on Amazon you would use Virtual Voice on the eBook instead.

Can I design my book cover in Manuscript Studio?

Yes — the Cover Studio is a free-form layer editor on your printer’s exact wraparound cover (back, spine, front — spine width computed from your page count), with genre templates, text, shapes, your images, and AI-generated cover art. Download the print wrap PDF plus store-sized eBook cover JPEGs for Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, and NOOK.

Will AI overwrite my writing?

Never. Every AI suggestion appears side by side with your original — accept it, reject it, regenerate it, or hand-edit it. There’s a word-level diff view and one-click revert after accepting.

How much does Manuscript Studio cost?

Plans start at $5/month: Starter ($5) covers one book with full PDF, EPUB, DOCX and cover downloads; Creator ($12) adds more books, stronger AI models, and the AI-narrated audiobook; Premium ($25) gives you 30 books and every model; Studio ($100) is for publishing at volume, with 150 books and 2,000 credits a month. Every plan includes the complete writing studio, and you can cancel anytime.
